Our Team

DARLENE MIZUMOTO, MPH, RDN, Chief Executive Officer

Lyceum Village CEO Darlene Mizumoto, MPH, RDN, has served as the director of the Children’s Program for the Central Japanese American Community Church for more than 20 years. She is experienced with Homeschool Education Independent Study Programs and is an expert in the nutritional needs of children. She has trained medical providers in the prevention of childhood obesity. She has also served as chairman of the Scholarship Committee for the Loma Linda University Medical Auxiliary. She is a member of the Board of the Junior Chamber Music organization.

She holds a master's degree in public health as well as a degree as a registered dietitian nutritionist from Loma Linda University.

DR. SUSAN BOETTGER, Founder and President

Lyceum Village Co-Founder Dr. Susan Boettger is the director of keyboard studies at Irvine Valley College. She is also the founder and executive director of the non-profit Junior Chamber Music (JCM) organization with branches in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, the Conejo Valley, and Orange County. She gained extensive experience recruiting top Southern California teachers and students during 15 years of operating and expanding the JCM.

She earned a doctorate in music from the University of Southern California and a masters degree in piano performance from The Juilliard School. She holds a bachelors degree in mathematics and music from Rice University.

POONAM SHAH, Advisor and General Manager of Northern California

Poonam Shah previously served as a director of product management and strategy for Oracle, a global leader in the technology field, where she managed innovation programs from ideology to go to market. Her prior experience also includes acting as a global supply chain manager and emerging markets sales operations manager, among other positions, for Hewlett Packard Corporation. She earned a masters degree in information management from Arizona State University and a bachelors degree in communication and management with honors from Emerson University.


SUSAN BALLOU, APR, Director of Public Relations

Susan Ballou has more than 30 years of experience in the field of marketing and public relations. She served as vice president of Rodheim Marketing Group prior to becoming an independent consultant working with clients in a variety of fields. She holds a bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of California at Long Beach, and she earned accreditation in public relations (APR) from PRSA. She has served as a member of the board of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA).


PAUL EDWARDS, Southern California Facilities Director

Paul Edwards utilizes his 20-year experience with the Anaheim Walt Disney Theme Park’s Material Control and Wardrobe departments to serve as the director of facilities at Lyceum Village, SPC. Paul has been a resident of Anaheim for the past 65 years, and was a very early graduate of Servite High School having been in their second graduating class. Paul was involved in the beginning of the Hoag Hospital’s Adult Day Services Center and has served as the Chairman of their operating board from 2000-2002. Paul is also a board member of Lyceum Village and Junior Chamber Music.


JIMMY KIM, Director of Martial Arts

is an American taekwondo practitioner and instructor who won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. He earned a bachelor's degree in Biology with an emphasis on Human Physiology from UC Berkeley. After graduating from UC Berkeley, he earned a Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, now known as the Southern California University of Health Sciences.
